What is it?

Certifies the condition of resident of the city of Barcelona.

Who can apply?

The Inscription to the Register of inhabitants of the city of Barcelona must be done by those people who come to live in Barcelona from another municipality of the Spanish State or from abroad.

What is it for?

It facilitates access to certain rights, such as public health care or basic schooling for minors, and is a requirement for most of the procedures related to the Immigration Law (family reunification, social roots, etc.).

How to do it?

In general, in order to register, it is necessary to provide documentation on the identity of the person who is registering and on his or her address. However, it should be borne in mind that, depending on the case, the procedure varies.

WHAT TYPES OF REGISTRATIONS ARE THERE?

A) Registration at a fixed address: The documentation to be provided varies if the person who carries out the procedure is the owner of the dwelling where he/she wants to register or, on the other hand, if he/she is a renter. The owner or tenant may also give express authorization for the registration of other persons at the address.

B) Registration of minors: The registration of a minor must be processed by his/her legal representative. – Foreigners over 14 years of age: residence card or passport or identity card of the country of origin (the latter document only if they belong to the European Union, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein). In the case of persons from the United Kingdom, the residence document established by the agreement of withdrawal from the European Union is also valid. If the documentation of the minor does not include all the data of the parents, it will be necessary to provide the family book (if they have in their country) or the birth registration or the passport of the parents where all the data of the minor are included. Foreigners under 14 years of age: family book (if they have in their country) or birth registration or passport of the parents where all the details of the minor are included, and, if they have, residence card or passport (in the case of people from the United Kingdom, the residence document established by the agreement of withdrawal from the European Union is also valid), or identity card of the country of origin (this last document only if they belong to the European Union, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein).

C) Registration without a fixed address: Even if the person does not reside continuously in a dwelling in Barcelona and, therefore, cannot prove any type of documentation related to the address, the registration of the person and his or her family nucleus must also be guaranteed. In this case, before formalizing the census registration, the report of knowledge of residence must be requested.
